Tuesday, Jan 3 2012 at 10:09 pm - This is a rare large-format original 1938 lithograph, hand-painted using a pochoir process, of the religion-based Sun Dance of the Shoshone Native Americans. The central pole pictured is said to represent God, while the poles (here only eight are shown) represent the twelve apostles. The buffalo skin effigy, along with the colored streamers and eagle feathers are standard ornamental components of the Sun Dance across Shoshone tribes.
