1883 Japanese Lacquer Box Phoenix Chromolithograph NICE - Original Chromolithograph
Wednesday, Nov 2 2011 at 7:13 pm - This is an original 1883 chromolithograph of a Japanese black lacquered box embellished with raised gold lacquer. The bird represented here is the Phoenix, (Hou-Ou, Ho-Oo, or Howo), the mythical bird that rises again and again from the ashes. The gold ink unfortunately, does not show up well in our digital capture, appearing dull brown. Therefore, we have provided another digital image which shows the gold ink better, but which does not capture the rich black background as well. Please see both ( Read more ... )
