Tuesday, Nov 8 2011 at 11:04 pm - This is an original 1883 chromolithograph of a Japanese black lacquered screen panel embellished with gold flakes and gold dust. The woman represented here (carved in ivory) is a celebrated Court lady and poetess of the eleventh century. She is standing under an ume, or Japanese plum tree. The gold ink unfortunately, does not show up well in our digital capture, appearing dull brown.
